Optical splitters play an important role in Passive Optical Network (PON) and Fibre to the Home (FTTH) networks.

The quality and performance of the optical splitter is not only guaranteed by the use of high quality components and strict manufacturing processes but also by the Quality Control process that we perform in our own laboratory, check one by one and identify individually with their serial number. There are many factors to be taken into account in addition to insertion loss and return loss behaviour. The selection of materials must be complementary to each other to ensure proper cohesion when the materials are assembled and cured under optimum conditions. One of the most important factors is the epoxy that binds the fibre to the three main components of the splitter to ensure adhesion of each component. The epoxy must be injected without producing incompatibility or entrapped air bubbles, and it must be cured at the correct temperature and in the correct time. In conclusion, the integrity, performance and long-term reliability of the optical splitter are of paramount importance throughout the life of a PON system, under compliance with GR-1209 CORE and GR-1221.
